The Cold tolerant Mexicola Grande (Type A) produces medium sized fruit with paper-thin, glossy black skin that is edible.
The flesh of the Mexicola Grande is deep green near the skin and yellow near the seed, with a rich, nutty flavour.
Mexicola's are the only avocado cultivar with edible skin and leaves.
The leaves have a strong anise aroma and are used to impart a unique flavour in Mexican recipes. Mexicola is the most frost resistant of all avocados.
