Persimmon Rojo Brilliante - Astringent

Plants are dormant late autumn and winter- no leaves until spring.

The Rojo Brilliante is technically an Astringent persimmon with a distinct elongated dome-shape and a sensationally smooth, bright orange to red skin. 

The Rojo can have the astringency removed by carbon dioxide treatment, and is therefore delicious when eaten firm or soft, peel on or peel off. 

Rojo has high levels of sweetness and flavour and a thin skin make this a very attractive variety.

Rojo originates in Spain, The variety was first discovered growing in Valencia region over 50 years ago and is thought to have developed naturally from the conventional persimmon varieties that were introduced into eastern Spain
