The Ice Cream Bean - Inga Edulis is a fast growing legume tree found in Central and South America.

A medium to large tree with wide-spreading branches and stunning white pom-pom shaped flowers. The fruit pods have are up to 1m long looking similar to large beans and contain a thick white pulp that bears a resemblance to vanilla ice cream in taste.

The ice cream bean is highly regarded for its ability to fix nitrogen in the soil and is an excellent option for providing fast-growing shade in permaculture and syntropic plantings, as well as serving as a "chop and drop" tree.
