The original Zillate tree
mango was a chance seedling selected by the Zill family in Florida decades ago and has been speculated to be a cross between Palmer and Tommy Atkins.
The fruit are medium to large, oblong in shape and develop a deep purple colour long before reaching maturity, much like Palmer. They turn red with yellow background colour as they begin to ripen.
The flesh is yellow, firm, with minimal fiber and contains a monoembryonic seed.
The flavour is quite good, particularly for a late season mango. It belongs in the classic flavour group and has notes of stone fruit with honey sweetness.
A great mango to extend your fruiting season.
